Omics for All
October 24 – 28, 2018
The Year of 2018 marks the 65th anniversary of the discovery of the DNA double helix and the 15th anniversary of the completion of the Human Genome Project. The International Conference on Genomics (ICG, www.icg-13.org ) hosted by BGI, the world’s leading biotechnology organization, has been an incredibly successful event for the last 12 years. It has brought together international researchers from a variety of fields who present advances that use ‘omics’ to understand basic biology and health, and generate novel technologies for advancing the field.
Since its small beginning in Hangzhou, China, in 2006, the ICG has been growing up from strength to strength and now the ICG-13, to follow its theme of Omics for All, attracts well over 1,000 attendees from all across the world. This year our Keynotes include talks by Prof. Wally Gilbert, the Nobel Laureate in chemistry 1980, Prof. Lee Hood, a pioneer in technology translation from R&D to industry, Prof. Wendy Bickmore, Director of the MRC Human Genetics Unit at the University of Edinburgh, Prof. Frank Hu from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Prof. Dieter Söll, Sterling Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry of Yale University, and other world renowned scientists.
Our session tracks cover topics in medicine, such as genomes and cancer, basic research, such as genomics and evolution and agriculture, and the latest developments in ‘omics’ technology, such as advances in imaging tools.
Among 20+ sessions, there are also special sessions, including the GigaScience Prize Track, which covers late-breaking research on papers submitted to GigaScience specifically for this award. Selected individuals will speak in this session and have their papers published in GigaScience. All speakers will receive travel coverage and APC discounts, and the authors from the top paper in the session will receive $1,000 USD. GigaScience, with its impact factor over 7 is currently calling for submissions for papers to be considered for this special session.
In addition to our excellent speakers, submission for the Poster Session will open to all participants. All the peer-reviewed posters will be rewarded with RMB 100 Yuans, and the outstanding ones will be considered for receipt of the Outstanding Poster Award. Judging is done on site by a select set of judges, and the award is given at the conference dinner. More details regarding Poster Submission are available at the conference website.
ICG will continue its tradition of having special Satellite meetings. This year, the Women in Science Conference will be held on the first day of ICG-13, Oct 24th. This is the conference’s 4th year, and we expect it to continue to be an exciting event that brings together top female researchers in big-data science and technology to present their work as well as their personal experiences related to being a woman in science. This satellite conference is free but only open to women.
To further promote women in STEM, this conference also provides a travel and speaking opportunity for women researchers just starting their career via a travel award for young women researchers. The successful applicant will be one of the young women speakers at the 4th Annual Women in Science Conference on Oct 24th, 2018 and will have their ICG-13 registration, travel expenses and housing covered.
The conference on the 5th Science Carnival, as an integrated part of the ICG, will be held on the last day, Oct 28th, of the ICG-13. Dozens of well-known speakers, including researchers, science writers, and celebrities, will deliver extraordinarily interesting lectures involving colorful activities in various field of sciences, which will attract hundreds of attendees especially those young science enthusiasts. The conference is free for registered participants in the ICG-13. More details can also found at the conference website.
As with previous years, the ICG-13 will include presentations of the most innovative research and create a variety of friendly atmosphere and excellent opportunities for collaboration among participants, especially those young rising stars.
We look forward to your attendance at the ICG-13 and to providing you the warmest welcome to Shenzhen, China.
