    Mass-Spec Laboratory Manager

    Position Summary:

    The Mass Spectrometry Center in San Jose, BGI Americas, is accepting applications for a full-time manager to run the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. This is a full-time and fully benefited position with competitive salary. The Laboratory Manager will lead a team of individuals who embrace and share in the same vision, core values and integrity of the science. This is a hands-on position that oversees all aspects of the laboratory, including personnel and day-to-day operations.


    Location: San Jose, California


    Major Responsibilities:

    •         Manage the laboratory operation, provide MS services to meet the needs of customers.

    •         Supervision of laboratory personnel

    •         Oversight of analytical method development and validation

    •         Oversight of maintaining and repairing instruments

    •         Oversight of laboratory purchasing and upgrading

    •         Ensuring compliance with applicable standards

    •         Maintaining compliance with Health and Safety guidelines

    •         Annual review and update of Quality Manual and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

    •         Hiring and training of personnel


    Qualifications:

    •         Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, no post-graduation experience required, or an M.S. with at least four years of post-graduation experience

    •         Must have experience and strong knowledge of MS instrumentation

    •         5+ years lab experience using HPLC and Mass Spectrometry

    •         2+ years experience managing employees in a laboratory setting

    •         High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

    •         Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve

    •         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    •         Excellent organization and management skills

    •         Experience writing SOPs and method validation procedures

    Mass Spec Product Manager

    Job Summary:

    The Mass-Spec Product Manager (MSPM) is a key member of the team responsible for defining product strategy, scope, and launch decisions for BGI’s Mass-Spec analysis services in the Americas markets. This role will be responsible for maintaining and developing the product portfolio, managing product marketing for Mass-Spec services from BGI’s laboratory in San Jose, California. The role will work cross functionally with commercial, technical and management teams to support successful execution of product strategy for BGI’s Mass-Spec analysis services in the Americas markets.


    Location: San Jose, California, USA.


    Major Responsibilities:

    •         Conduct market research of global and US mass-specs service market, perform competitive analysis of BGI’s mass-specs business in the US;

    •         Work with regional and global leadership teams to develop business plan and product roadmap for Mass-Spec business growth in the US;

    •         Gather inputs from internal and external stakeholders, to define Mass-Spec product concepts, develop detailed product requirements, feature definitions, and implementation plans. Support product development and launch decisions, develop and implement product portfolio growth plans for the Mass Spec center;

    •         Work with laboratory team to create and update product content, develop messaging for BGI Mass-Spec service in US market. Develop and review communication materials including technical data sheets, slide presentations, technotes to customers;

    •         Work with marketing team to develop and manage sales tools, execute product launch, promotions and other marketing campaigns through established online and off-line marketing channels, perform sales training, and support sales & business development activities ad needed;

    •         Work with business development team and laboratory team to develop and maintain KOL network. Coordinate with laboratory team and key collaborators for product co-development and validation. Manage Voice of Customer programs to support product launch and life cycle management;

    •         Present key technology development and scientific discovery on behalf of BGI Mass-Spec departments at industry meetings and scientific events. Maintain and develop industry network and promote BGI brand awareness in Mass-Spec area;

    •         Monitor product line financial performance and propose initiatives to optimize business performance;

    •         Report (monthly, quarterly, annual, etc.) and document Mass-Spec product management work to global and regional business leaders.


    Qualifications:

    •         Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or Master/Ph.D’s degree in Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry preferred;

    •         Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in product management, marketing, technical support, and other commercial roles strongly preferred;

    •         Technical or commercial experience in mass spec analysis, laboratory testing, contract research services esp. related to the biopharma industry strongly preferred;  

    •         Demonstrated ability to develop product launch plans and lead the internal launch readiness activities for new products;

    •         Strong business acumen, financial and analytical skills;

    •         Ability to effectively build relationships and manage cross-functional teams;

    •         Strong communication skills required. Willingness to travel as required for position (approx. 20-30% of time)

    •         Authorization to work in the United States.

    Mass Spec Business Development Manager/Director

    Position Summary:

    The Business Development Manager/Director for Mass Spec Services will lead business development efforts on behalf of BGI Americas Mass Spec business in the US. The candidate will be responsible for developing key business relationships with biopharma, contract research organization (CRO), diagnostic, and key academic accounts in the United States. 


    Job Location: Location flexible. California Bay Area preferred.


    Major Responsibilities:

    •          Develop new customer accounts for BGI Americas San Jose Mass Spec center. Nurture new customer accounts and establish mature business relationship for BGI mass spec service business.

    •          Collaborate with existing BGI Americas commercial team to introduce mass spec analysis services to existing genomics customer base. Enhance customer experience and loyalty with multi-omics analysis solutions.

    •          Develop strategic business relationship with biopharma, CRO and diagnostic accounts. Negotiate licensing, co-marketing and other collaboration agreements to expand partnership relationships related to BGI’s mass spec and multi-omics platforms.

    •          Contribute strategic insights to the growth of BGI Americas’ mass spec and multi-omics business. Perform market competitive analysis to identify business growth opportunities, and to develop essential investments and external partnership strategies.

    •          Work with product management and laboratory team to improve BGI’s mass spec product solutions based on market trend as well as opinions from key customers/collaborators in different industry sectors.

    •          Develop and manage relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) in Mass Spec and multi-omics space. Work with Mass Spec center to develop and execute key proof-of-concept and pilot studies to contribute to new technology demonstration and product promotion to the market.

    •          Attend and coordinate national and regional conferences, trade shows, online events and corporate meetings as scheduled.

    •          Understand BGI’s value proposition in broader scope and being able to communicate BGI’s vision beyond genomics and mass spec services.


    Job Requirements:

    •          Minimum BS in biology, chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics or equivalent science degree.

    •          Minimum 3 years of account management and customer facing experience in biotech industry.

    •          Experience in mass spec products or services required. Experience with biopharma or CROs strongly preferred.

    •          Proficiency in selling genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and/or other omics services strongly preferred.

    •          Business development experience and proven track record in related business area strongly preferred.

    •          Strong understanding of the mass spec analysis market preferred.

    •          Willingness to travel 25% - 50% of time.

    •          Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills.

    LC/MS Research Associate – Small Molecule

    Position Summary:

    San Jose Mass Spec Lab of BGI Americas is seeking an exceptional and motivated research associate with competitive compensation. The main responsibility of this position includes, but not limited, to support the SJMS production team 1) to turn around routine customer and research projects, 2) to maintenance and operate LC-MS instrument, 3) to assist lab manager to build up metabolomics and lipidomics capability in SJMS lab, 4) to support other departments when needed. A candidate with metabolomics/lipidomics LC-MS experience is a plus; a candidate with small molecule sample prep experience is a plus.  

    An ideal candidate will need to demonstrate that they are capable of consistently following Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) to consistently perform sample preparation procedures for metabolomic or lipidomics analysis. A candidate with hands-on experience in HPLC, Orbitrap mass spec and working with biofluids is a plus.

    •         Turn around dedicated production projects and lead research projects within set TAT. 

    •         Build and develop metabolomics and lipidomics products in SJMS lab with lab manager.

    •         To maintain and operate LC-MS instrument; being able to maintain one or more instruments at the same time; Being able to do on-call duty.

    •         Assist project team with after-sale services, assist marketing team for tech note generation or assist other teams when needed. 

    •         Independently follow SOPs to conduct experiments in a timely manner, including Upfront sample extraction, MS sample preparation, sample purification/fractionation and LC-MS/MS Operations.

    •         Effectively document fine details/incidents of experiments performed.

    •         Supporting production staff as needed.

    •         This position will be reporting to the lab manager of Mass Spec Lab.


    Qualifications:

    •         B.S. degree with biochemistry/chemistry major or related field with at least 0-2 years of experience. 

    •         Experienced with metabolomics/lipidomics LC-MS is a PLUS.

    •         Experienced with metabolites/lipids sample prep automation is a PLUS.

    •         Experienced with small molecule purification and metabolites sample extraction is a PLUS.

    •         In-theory understood mass spec and hands-on experience on LC-MS is desired.

    •         Experienced with handling different source of samples such as cell lysate, gut microbiome, tissues, or any biological fluids.

    •         Effective documentation and strong communication.

    •         Work in both independent and collaborative environment.

    •         Computational savvy and familiar with Microsoft Office are preferred.

    Field Application Scientist for Mass Spec Services

    Position Summary:

    The Field Application Scientist (FAS) will provide technical support and education to new and existing customers of our Mass Spec service portfolio. The FAS will serve as the scientific/technical expert and partner with commercial teams to best support our academic and industry customers in the Americas region.

    Major Responsibilities:

    •         Understand and maintain current knowledge of the company's products and services. Keep informed on technological developments, market competition, policies, and regulation, etc., in the Mass Spec based Proteomics/Metabolomics space. Be well versed in Mass Spec tools and applications in the academic research, drug R&D, diagnostic and other industrial applications.

    •         Provide expert knowledge of services and applications to customers. Provide consultative scientific support, e.g. assisting with experimental design, workflow optimization, etc. Coordinate with Sales and Business Development teams to accelerate the sales process and secure contract executions.

    •         Work with customers, product, and project teams to design and execute important pilot studies. Perform protocol evaluation, data analysis to ensure that deliverables and workflows are aligned with customer expectation. Support sales and Business Development teams to secure important projects and collaborations.

    •         Provide post-sales technical support, address customers inquiries on data deliverables, and perform troubleshooting, identify root cause and corrective actions to address customer concerns.

    •         Provide training and education to commercial teams in the Americas region. Work with management team to ensure that the Sales and Business Development teams fully understand BGI’s service strengths and can effectively communicate product features and values to the customers.

    •         Develop customer-facing seminars and presentations for the Sales and Business Development teams and participate in the training for new sales employees and ongoing training of the sales and support teams.

    •         Attend national and regional conferences, trade shows and corporate meetings as scheduled. Work with product and marketing teams to monitor technology trends and competitive intelligence.

    •         Assist product and marketing teams to develop/review scientific content for tech notes, service overviews, newsletters, web content, FAQs, etc. Provide technical recommendation to product management team to help optimize and improve product portfolio.

    •         Assist product management team to evaluate and execute co-development and co-marketing collaborations with partners in the Americas region. Coordinate execution of project workflows that involves US partners through such collaborations.

    •         Perform technical assessment on emerging technologies and products and make recommendations to enhance company’s product portfolio.  


    Job Requirements:

    •         Minimum MS in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or equivalent science degree. PhD preferred.

    •         Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of mass-spec technologies and Proteomics/Metabolomics analysis. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of bioinformatics strongly preferred.

    •         Wet lab experience in Proteomics and Metabolomics is preferred.

    •         Strong understanding of the market and customer needs within the multi-Omics industry.

    •         Willingness to travel between 25 % – 50% of the time.

    •         Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills.

    •         Require American citizenship, permanent residency or working permit in US.
